Holbox Island
Holbox ("Black hole" in Mayan language) is part of the Yum-Balam Biosphere Reserve.
It is located off north-eastern tip of the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico and is the only island in the Caribbean that has more than 40 km of unspoiled beaches. Until now, the virgin beaches have been preserved and a simple life surrounded by nature.
It is approximately 48 kilometers long and 1.5 kilometers wide, and it is separated from the mainland by a shallow lagoon that is home to flamingos, pelicans and other rich birdlife. It turns a simple walk on the beach into an unforgettable experience. Not yet too touristic, the island's main resource is fishing.
The sea in Holbox has countless shades of blue, playful dolphins, gigantic fish and very pink flamingos. In this tropical paradise the temperature rarely rises above 86°F (30°C) or below 68°F (20°C) throughout the year.
Holbox island is a nature reserve with only one small, authentic fishing village (also called Holbox) where people enjoy a cheerful and simple lifestyle.

We can provide all transfers from the Cancun Airport/ City/Hotel to Posada Mawimbi on Holbox Island. It’s a “Door to Door” service!

Night arrival: the ferry boat to get to Holbox leaves from Chiquilà (2 hours far from Cancun Airport).
All our passengers who land in the evening must consider 3 hours to get to Chiquilà (1 hour to get out from the airport and 2 hours of taxi transfer).
Last ferry boat to the island leaves at 9:30 pm. In case you can’t get on time the 9.30pm ferry it will not be possible to cross until the following day.

How to get to Holbox
The safest and most comfortable way to get the island is by our organized transfer.
If you rent a car once you arrive in Chiquilà there are several parking lots where you can leave your car for about 5 USD per day.
Please find the boat timetable in the snapshot on the right. Since about 2 years there is a second company every half an hour.
You can also reach Holbox from Cancun, Playa del Carmen or Cozumel by plane.
The plane can carry from 1 to 4 persons (with a suitcase each) or 5 persons without suitcases.
The fly will take 30 minutes: for a group of 4 persons it could be a great solution.
